COURSE DETAILS

Motorcycle training is compulsory for all learner riders. You must take a course of training and obtain a certificate of compulsory Basic Training (CBT) before you are allowed on the road.

Your course with Cleveland Motorcycle Training Scheme includes this compulsory training at the beginning. The remaining lessons are geared towards improving your riding skills and preparing you for the accompanied driving test.

Courses are available for both machine owners and non-owners. You can choose to train either at weekends or midweek. Your Instructors are fully trained and qualified volunteers who give up their time to pass on their skills and experience to give you the best start in riding.

COMPULSORY BASIC TRAINING

All learner riders must, by law, take a course of Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) and obtain a certificate before being allowed to ride on the road on "L" plates. A CBT pass certificate is valid for 2 years. CBT must be retaken if both the Theory and Practical tests are not passed within the 2 year life of the Certificate.

PROVISIONAL LICENCES

You need to hold a valid provisional motorcycle licence before your start your course. Check out our page on licences for more information or call us to discuss.

THEORY TEST

All riders with a provisional licence must pass the Theory Test before taking the practical on-road test. The test pass certificate is valid for 2 years.

ACCOMPANIED DRIVING TEST

You will need to arrange your own driving test as this is not included in your course. You can however hire a Scheme motorcycle on the day of your test if you have completed a course with us.

On the Test the Examiner will follow you on another motorcycle or car giving directions via radio intercom.

After passing the 125cc motorcycle test you will be restricted for 2 years to riding a bike of up to 25kw (34bhp). After this you may ride a bike of any size.

DIRECT ACCESS TRAINING

The Law allows riders over the age of 21, or those who reach 21 before their 2 year restriction ends to move immediately onto larger machines via a system of Direct Access or Accelerated Access training. We have a range of 500cc+ motorcycles for this training. Call the Scheme Office for further details if you would like this option.
